Municipal Court Clerk Tara Tinney recently earned her Level I Clerk Certification from the Texas Court Clerks Association (TCCA) in conjunction with the Texas Municipal Courts Education Center (TMCEC), the Texas Municipal Courts Association (TMCA) and Texas State University. To earn this certification, a student must complete 40 hours of education and pass an exam that covers topics such as charging/pretrial, state/city reports, trial processes/procedures, traffic law, court ethics, post-trial processes and professionalism/communication. With Tinney’s certification, the Municipal Court currently has four clerks certified through the program, a first for the court. Tinney began working for the City in February 2023, and she has completed the City’s Civilian Police Academy and Civilian Responder Program. She is also certified as a child passenger safety technician through the Texas Department of State Health Services’ Safe Riders Child Passenger Safety Program. She holds an associate degree in criminal justice, and she will graduate with her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from the University of Phoenix this spring.
